All assignments should include an Assignment Attachment Cover Sheet. These are available for download in PDF and Word format.
Assignments can be submitted in hard copy, by email or by fax.
Email is the preferred method as it is quick and easy to verify. You should receive an automated receipt if you submit your assignment by email. Assignments should be emailed to assignments@murdoch.edu.au.
Assignments can also be faxed to (08) 9360 6017. Please include the number of pages on the cover sheet so we can ensure we have received the complete assignment.
Hard copy assignments can be lodged directly with the External Studies Office.
Office hours are 8.30 am to 4.30 pm. There is also an after hours chute available to drop off assignments.
Assignments can also be mailed to:

Each external student is allocated a tutor for each enrolled unit. The tutor is there to answer any questions you may have on the unit content as well as to mark your assignments.
Please do not hesitate to contact your tutor if you have any questions about the unit or completing your assignment. You will also need to contact your tutor if you wish to apply for an extension on your assignment.
The External Studies Office will email each student the name and contact details of tutors as they are made available by the unit coordinator.
This process will commence in the weeks preceding the start of the teaching period and may continue throughout the first week of semester.
If you did not enrol late but do not have your tutor information by the start of week 2 you should contact the External Studies Office
Phone: (08) 9360 2710 Email: externalstudies@murdoch.edu.au.
The mailing of unit materials will commence two weeks prior to the start of each teaching period, so if possible you should enrol in your external units prior to this time. You should also ensure that your address details are up-to-date to avoid misdirection of your Unit Materials package.
Each package will include a Unit Information and Learning Guide and a letter which provides key information so should be read carefully. There may also be additional materials such as a reader or lab manual if applicable.
Generally a separate package is sent for each unit so if you are enrolled in more than one unit you should not expect to receive all unit packages at the same time.
Students living interstate or overseas will have their unit materials sent by courier.
You will be emailed notification at the time your materials are despatched.
If you did not enrol late but have not received your unit materials by week 2 you should contact the External Studies Office
Phone: (08) 9360 2710 Email: externalstudies@murdoch.edu.au.
If you enrol after the commencement of the despatch process, you should allow up to 10 days from the date you enrolled to receive your materials.
TEXTBOOKS can be purchased from the Bookshop at the Murdoch campus. The Rockingham campus bookshop will stock textbooks relevant to courses offered at that campus. You can view booklists and order textbooks on-line.
Murdoch University offers a flexible learning experience which utilises online technology to complement more traditional resources such as printed unit materials.
The learning objectives of any unit are identical irrespective of whether you are studying internally or externally. Once enrolled in a unit, all students will have access to the MyUnits page which provides online unit materials, assignment information, access to self-paced Study Skills modules and Lectopia recordings, when available.
Lectopia provides audio recordings of lectures, usually within 24 hours of their delivery; these recordings can be downloaded to MP3 or iPod. There are also links to other useful websites from the MyUnits page.
Students who have extenuating circumstances which mean that they are unable to access the internet, either at home or via their local library or Telecentre, should contact the External Studies Office on (08) 9360 2710 to discuss available options.
A list of courses available to study either fully or partially in the external mode is available in the Handbook or via the simplified PDF guide.
Assistance in a variety of study skills areas is available from the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). The topics covered include a broad range of issues including general study tips, writing essays, doing research and preparing for exams. Go to the TLC homepage for further information on enhancing your learning experience at Murdoch
The Murdoch Library also provides support for external students. External Library Delivery Services are available for students who are enrolled only in external units and live more than 30 aerial kilometres from the Murdoch campus. LIDDAS is the Library's service for document delivery and external copy requests.
The External Studies Office is a central point for external students to direct queries or concerns. Apart from monitoring assignments and mailing unit materials, the External Studies staff can answer general queries or act as a conduit for external students who are unsure of who to contact.
The External Studies staff can be contacted by phone on (08) 9360 2710 or email at externalstudies@murdoch.edu.au
Please do not send assignments to this mailbox. Assignments should be emailed to assignments@murdoch.edu.au.
If you are experiencing technical difficulties accessing your unit pages or you lose or forget your password, you should contact the IT Service Desk as soon as possible.
You can do this by phone on (08) 9360 2000, via email at itservicedesk@murdoch.edu.au or you can lodge the request on-line.
You should also contact the IT Service Desk if you want to apply for a student ID card. If you are unable to come on campus, you should email a photo to the Service Desk along with your full name and student number.
You can update your personal information, choose your unit sets, complete your Commonwealth Assistance form and enrol in or withdraw from your units by following the prompts on MyInfo.
To enrol in an external unit you must be careful to select the 'X' option under 'Class'.
To withdraw from a unit, you simply choose 'discontinue' against that unit.
Don't forget to save any changes you make so they are committed to your record.
The enrolment deadlines and other useful dates can be found on the Deadlines page.
Murdoch offers a chat site for external students called the Bush Telegraph. This site is available to any student enrolled externally so you can share your views and concerns on a range of subjects, from academic matters to personal interests.
Students can also choose to be included on a Unit Contact List when enrolling. Names and email addresses are included on a list circulated only amongst the other students in each unit who have also indicated they wish to be included on the list.
